NTM Checklists
NTM Patient Care UK and NTM Network UK (a network of specialist NTM healthcare professionals), have worked together to develop a series of checklists. These checklists are documents designed to help patients with NTM infection understand their disease and navigate the different stages of their care. The checklists also support healthcare professionals (HCP) to deliver excellent care that is tailored to their patient’s individual health priorities.
Why were the checklists developed?
These checklists can help you keep track of your test results and treatment, record details about your NTM infection, and bring up questions about your care with your healthcare team. It is common for many different HCPs to become involved in your care during NTM treatment and these checklists can help make sure everyone is on the same page. Because every NTM infection is different and every health service works differently, not all parts of the checklists will be relevant for every patient.
How were the checklists developed?
Axiom Health (a medical communications agency) provided support to NTM Patient Care UK and NTM Network UK to develop these resources, with funding provided by Insmed UK (a pharmaceutical company with an interest in NTM pulmonary disease).
Note: Insmed UK had no involvement in the development of these checklists.
Who designed the checklists?
These checklists were developed by a steering committee made up of people who have been diagnosed with NTM infections together with different HCPs who have expertise in caring for them. HCPs including nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, dieticians, respiratory specialists and infectious diseases specialists were involved. We would like to acknowledge and thank all those involved for their contributions.
How should I use them?
There are four different patient resources and two HCP resources for use, and these are available in both printed and digital (PDF) format. Checklists for NTM Patients and Carers:
1. DIAGNOSIS CHECKLIST
This checklist is designed to help you discuss your new diagnosis of NTM infection with your NTM specialists, and to build a management plan that works for you.
2. APPOINTMENTS CHECKLIST
This checklist is designed for appointments after you have been diagnosed with NTM. It will help you prepare for, and get the most out of, your regular reviews with your specialist healthcare team.
3. NTM MEDICATIONS CHECKLIST
This checklist is designed to help you keep track of NTM medications and support you in managing your treatment.
4. PATIENT PASSPORT
This brief document is intended to help you share vital information about your NTM with HCPs who may be unfamiliar with NTM, or who are seeing you for the first time. It can be carried in a wallet or purse so that you have access to key information about your NTM disease at all times.
Checklists for Healthcare Professionals:
In addition to the patient checklists above, two further checklists have been developed for use by healthcare professionals.
The following are specifically for use by healthcare professionals (HCPs), however if your HCP is not aware of these resources then you may want to suggest they visit this website (or the NTM Network UK website). Alternatively, you may want to print them off to share with your HCP.
1. DIAGNOSIS CHECKLIST
This checklist is designed to support HCPs in the early post-diagnosis care of patients with NTM. Not all checklist components are relevant for all patients, and this document should be used at the discretion of the clinician.
2. REVIEW APPOINTMENTS CHECKLIST
This checklist is designed to support HCPs during review consultations with NTM patients. Not all checklist components are relevant for all patients, and this document should be used at the discretion of the clinician.
